Climate change is a defining challenge of our time. Europe and the MENA-region both face mounting pressure to address the impact of climate change, from rising temperatures to water scarcity.
Addressing the challenges of climate change requires coordinated efforts and collaboration across the public and private sector, as well as with civil society, to combine innovative solutions with governmental policy. Young people are particularly vocal and active in driving change. Their contributions must be addressed and integrated.
To date, the EU and several countries in the MENA-region have committed to near future climate neutrality goals. Similarly, both regions have vast experiences in dealing with climate change, and in efforts to transition to renewable energy.
There is significant potential to bridge this expertise, promote mutual learning, and enhance opportunities for partnerships.
Objectives
- This session will bring together public and private sector actors, as well as members of civil society and youth representatives, for a joint discussion on climate action in the Euro-MENA region.
- By connecting these sectors and actors, the session hopes to elevate issues of common interest and concern in the Euro-MENA region, potentially serving new partnerships and collective climate action.
Key discussion questions
- What are the opportunities for collaboration across the public and private sectors to combat climate change [examples from Europe and the MENA-region]?
- What are the ways to support the impact of civil society and youth-led green initiatives in the Euro-MENA region?
