Michelle Pace
Michelle Pace is Professor in Global Studies at the Department of Social Sciences and Business, Roskilde University. She is also Associate Fellow, Europe Program at Chatham House, London, Associate Member (non-resident), Middle East Studies Forum, Deakin University, Australia and Member of the Scientific Advisory Board, Center for Advanced Middle Eastern Studies at Lund University in Sweden. She is the Danish partner lead on the conceptual work-package for a Horizon Europe project SHAPEDEM-EU (2022-2025). A political scientist by training, her research and teaching focus on the intersection between European / Middle East / Critical Migration / Democratization and Peace & Conflict Studies. Previously, she worked at the University of Birmingham in the UK, during which time she was Principal Investigator on a British Academy-funded project entitled “A ‘Modern’ Islamist Democracy? Perceptions of Democratization in the Arab-Mediterranean World” and an Economic and Social Research Council-funded project on “Paradoxes and Contradictions in EU Democracy Promotion Efforts in the Middle East”. She is the co-author of The Palestinian Authority in the West Bank: The Theatrics of Woeful Statecraft (Routledge, 2019) and co-editor of Knowledge Production in Higher Education: Between Europe and the Middle East (Manchester University Press, 2023) and the Routledge Handbook of EU–Middle East Relations (Routledge, 2021). Michelle has been a co-editor of the peer-reviewed journal Mediterranean Politics and is now an active member of its editorial board. Her forthcoming book, Un-welcome to Denmark. The Paradigm Shift and Refugee Integration, will be published by MUP in December 2025.
